AluminiumRecycling exists to produce technical documentation that a metallurgical engineer, an environmental compliance officer or a procurement team can act on without first asking who paid for it. Independence here is not a statement of character. It is a set of refusals that can be checked.

1. Mission
The institute documents, analyses and maps the technology of aluminium recycling — from the moment dross is skimmed at a furnace door to the point where a residue is classified, traded, treated or landfilled. Three activities define the work:

The audience is narrow by design: casthouse metallurgists, plant managers, environmental compliance officers, and researchers. Material is written to be usable by that audience, which is why figures carry their denominators, temperatures carry their ranges, and equipment parameters are reported rather than recommended.
2. Why independence has to be operational
Almost every organisation in this field describes itself as independent. The word has been drained by use. A trade association is independent of government; a consultancy is independent of suppliers; a vendor’s application note is independent of its competitors. Each is true and none is sufficient.
An independence claim is only useful if it can be falsified. That means stating what the institute will decline, in terms specific enough that a reader could notice a violation. Vague neutrality cannot be checked; a named refusal can.
So the claim made here is narrow and testable: there are three things this institute does not do, and no exception has been made for any party. If that ceases to be true, this page is where it must be recorded — the correction principle in our Editorial Standards applies to this page as much as to any technical one.
3. The three refusals

4. What this independence does not mean
Four limits are stated here because omitting them would make the claim larger than it is.

One consequence worth stating plainly. Because we depend on public sources, our coverage is better where disclosure is better. A European plant covered by a third-party audit report can be described in specific detail; a large producer that publishes only sales volume cannot. That asymmetry is a finding of our work, not a gap in it — and we will not manufacture numbers to make the coverage look even.
5. Funding and sustainability
An institute that refuses commercial revenue must say how it continues.
The site carries no advertising, sells no product or service, charges no subscription, and accepts no payment for placement or ranking. Publishing costs — hosting, domain registration, tooling — are borne by the operating organisation.
Where a relationship exists that a reader might reasonably regard as capable of influencing a conclusion, the practice on this site is to name it rather than wait to be asked. As at this version, no such relationship affects any published analysis. Should one arise, it is recorded here.
Content is licensed CC BY-NC-SA 4.0, which permits free non-commercial reuse with attribution. The NonCommercial condition is retained deliberately: it prevents our technical analysis being repurposed in sales material, at the cost of some circulation. That trade-off is stated in the Terms of Use rather than hidden in a licence footer.
6. How the work is checked
Independence of interest is worthless without discipline of method. The operating standard is set out in full in our Editorial Standards; the parts most relevant here are:
- Sources are graded. Primary regulation and audited disclosure rank above peer-reviewed literature, which ranks above official statistics, which ranks above corporate claims, which ranks above trade press. Where sources conflict, the higher grade prevails unless a lower one is both newer and explicitly superseding.
- Every figure carries its basis. A recovery rate without a denominator — relative to metal charged, to dross charged, or to a named installation — is treated as unverified, regardless of how often it is repeated elsewhere.
- The unverifiable is marked, not smoothed over. Where a claim is widely circulated but cannot be traced, we say so on the page.
- Corrections are never silent. A substantiated correction is published with a dated note stating what changed; the earlier value is not quietly deleted. Credit is given unless the submitter asks otherwise.
- Nothing is removed for being inconvenient. Removal happens for inaccuracy, not for discomfort — including where the discomfort is commercial, and including where it is our own.
7. Limits that are imposed on us, not chosen by us
Two constraints deserve separate mention because they shape what readers can rely on.
Patent status is not legal clearance. We report patent filings and, where documented, expiry. The expiry of a patent in one jurisdiction does not mean the invention may be practised: a family member may remain in force elsewhere, and other rights may subsist. We do not issue freedom-to-operate opinions.
Regulatory mapping is time-bound. Waste classifications, customs codes, carbon-border default values and emission factors change on the schedule of the body that publishes them. Pages carrying such values state a review date, and the value is correct as at that date. Confirming the current position in your own jurisdiction remains necessary before acting.
8. How to hold us to this
The refusals above are only meaningful if someone can call a violation.

6. 工作如何被检验。没有方法纪律，利益独立便毫无价值。完整操作标准见《学术与文献引用标准》，与此最相关者：来源分级——一手法规与经审计披露高于同行评审文献，后者高于官方统计，再高于企业主张，最后为行业媒体；来源冲突时高层级优先，除非低层级更新且明确取代。每个数字带基准——回收率若未载明分母（相对投入金属、相对投入渣量，或相对具名装置），一律视为未证实，无论他处重复多少次。无法核实者予以标注而非抹平——凡说法流传甚广但无法追溯，我们在页面上说明。更正绝不静默——经证实的更正在发布时附载明日期的说明，载明改动内容，原值不静默删除；除非提交者另有要求，予以署名。不因不便而删除——删除只因不准确，不因令人不适，包括商业上的不适，也包括令我们自己不适者。
7. 外加于我们、而非我们自选的限制。① 专利状态不等于法律许可——我们报道专利申请及（在有据可查时）其届满。某专利在一法域届满并不意味着该发明可被实施：同族成员可能在其他辖区仍然有效，其他权利亦可能存在。本站不出具自由实施意见。② 法规梳理受时效约束——危废归类、海关编码、碳边境默认值与排放因子按其发布机构的日程变动。凡载有此类数值的页面均标注复核日期，该数值在该日期正确；采取行动前仍须确认您所在辖区的当前状况。
