Terms of Use

Terms of Use |

Version 1.0 · Last updated: 2026-10-30 · Applies to aluminiumrecycling.org

These terms govern your use of this website. By accessing it you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.

They are written to describe what this site actually is and what we actually do. Nothing here is boilerplate imported from a template, and nothing here claims a protection we would not rely on.

1. What this site is

AluminiumRecycling is an independent technical research institute for aluminium recycling technology. It publishes documentation, metallurgical analysis, equipment evaluation and regulatory mapping for the primary and secondary aluminium casthouse sectors.

It is not a trade association, a certification body, a standards organisation, a consultancy, or a supplier of equipment or services. It does not sell anything, take payment, or act as an agent for any manufacturer or recycler. Those operational boundaries are set out in full on our About page and govern how everything here should be read.

2. Who may use the site

The site is a technical reference resource intended for engineers, plant managers, environmental compliance officers, researchers and students. It is open to all and requires no account. Registration is disabled, so no accounts exist and none can be created.

You may read, download, print, cite and share material from this site subject to sections 3 to 5 below.

3. Content licence and intellectual property

Our own content — the text, analysis, tables and original diagrams we publish — is licensed for reuse under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0).

You may copy, distribute, adapt, translate and build upon our material for any purpose, including commercial purposes, subject to one substantive condition — attribution. That means you must:

  • give appropriate credit — cite “AluminiumRecycling (aluminiumrecycling.org)” with a link to the source page, the name of the article, and where a version or review date is shown, state it;
  • indicate if you made changes — say clearly what you modified, adapted or translated;
  • not imply endorsement — do not present your use in a way that suggests we endorse you, your product, your service or your conclusions. This condition comes from the licence itself, not merely from these terms;
  • link to the licence and keep the licence notice with any material you redistribute.

You need not ask permission, and you need not pay. You may reprint, excerpt, translate, incorporate into a report or presentation, load into a database, or use in training material — commercial or not. This applies to our own expression; it does not transfer any right in third-party material, as set out below.

Why this licence, and what it costs. We chose CC BY 4.0 deliberately, prioritising circulation and citation over control. Attribution is the mechanism by which a reference institute becomes citable, and a licence that permits commercial media, standards bodies and trade publications to reproduce material without negotiation is worth more to that goal than one that does not.

The cost is real and we state it plainly: because CC BY 4.0 permits commercial use, we cannot use copyright to stop an equipment vendor or recycler from repurposing our analysis in sales material. What remains is the no-endorsement condition above — they may use the content, but they may not suggest we approve their product. That is the whole of the protection, and we would rather say so than imply we hold more.

What the licence does not cover. The licence applies to our original expression, not to underlying facts, nor to material we quote from others:

  • Third-party material — patent text, extracts from standards, audit report content, statistical series and figures reproduced from company reports remain the property of their respective owners and are used here under citation or quotation. Do not treat our page as a substitute for obtaining rights from the original source.
  • Third-party names and marks — company names, product names, standard numbers and certification marks appearing on this site belong to their owners. Their appearance is factual reference and implies no endorsement in either direction.
  • Data — factual data such as HS codes, output figures and emission intensities are not subject to copyright in most jurisdictions. Cite the original source rather than us where the origin is named, which on this site it always is.

4. Permitted use

You may, without asking us:

  • read and browse the site;
  • print or download pages for your own reference or internal use;
  • cite us in academic, technical, regulatory or internal work, with attribution and a link;
  • quote short extracts with attribution, as permitted by the licence in section 3;
  • link to any page, at any depth, without prior notice;
  • index the site in a search engine or citation database.

Attribution enables the citation trail that a reference institute depends on, so we ask only that it be accurate: quote what we actually said, and link to the page you took it from.

5. Prohibited use

You may not:

  • republish substantial extracts as your own, or without the attribution the licence requires;
  • use material commercially — in sales material, tenders, paid products, marketing or training sold for a fee — beyond what section 3 permits;
  • present our content in a way that implies endorsement of a product, vendor, service or commercial claim. This is the misuse we are most concerned about, because our readers make purchasing decisions from technical data;
  • use the site to suggest any commercial relationship, agency, certification or approval that does not exist;
  • scrape, mirror or bulk-download the site in a manner that degrades service, or operate an automated crawler that ignores our robots directives;
  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, its host or its administrative functions;
  • post or transmit anything unlawful, defamatory, or infringing another’s rights — though as we accept no user submissions (see section 9), this is largely precautionary;
  • use the site in breach of applicable export control, sanctions or competition law.

Where a use falls outside section 3 and you believe it is legitimate — for example a standards body wishing to reproduce a table — write to us. We are generally willing to grant permission for scholarly, regulatory and educational reuse.

6. Nature of the technical information — read this before relying on it

This is the most important section of these terms.

The material on this site is technical documentation and analysis for information and education. It is compiled from public sources and is subject to the verification standard described in our Editorial Standards, under which every figure is graded as traced, secondary, vendor-sourced or unverified. That grading tells you how much weight a given number can bear — and it is the honest limit of what we promise.

It is not, and must not be treated as, any of the following:
  • Not operating instructions. Nothing here is a procedure, work instruction, permit-to-work or safe system of work. Aluminium dross handling involves molten metal, reactive residues, confined spaces and hazardous waste. Operations must be governed by your own site’s risk assessments, method statements, permits and competent supervision. Where we describe a hazard — for example ammonia release from aluminium nitride hydrolysis — we are describing a property of a material, not instructing anyone how to handle it.
  • Not engineering design or specification. Equipment parameters published here are reported from sources and are not design data. Do not size, specify, purchase or modify equipment on the basis of a figure on this site without confirming it with the manufacturer and a qualified engineer.
  • Not legal advice. We publish regulatory mapping — waste classifications, customs codes, carbon border mechanics — as documentation, not as legal opinion. Classification of a specific material, and liability under a specific regime, depends on jurisdiction, intent and facts we do not have. In particular: the fact that a patent has expired, or is reported here as expired, is not a freedom-to-operate opinion; a patent family may remain in force in another jurisdiction. Take your own legal advice.
  • Not a commercial recommendation. We do not recommend, rank, certify or endorse suppliers. The appearance of a product, process or company in our material is factual reference. Any purchasing decision is yours, on your own evaluation.
  • Not financial, investment or trading advice. Market, trade and price-related material is informational.
  • Not a substitute for the original source. Where a figure matters to a decision, read the primary document we cite. Abstracts and summaries lose the qualifiers that make numbers comparable — a recurring theme of our own analysis.

7. Accuracy, currency and correction

We take care to attribute sources, state the basis of every figure, and mark what we could not verify. Even so:

  • Published data — production volumes, reserve estimates, trade flows, emission intensities, regulatory values such as CBAM default values — changes on the schedule of the body that publishes it. A figure correct on our review date may since have been revised.
  • Hazardous waste classifications, customs codes and standards vary by jurisdiction and are revised. Confirm the position in your own jurisdiction with the competent authority.
  • Equipment configurations described in third-party audit reports are accurate as at the audit date only; certificate periods run three years.

Pages on this site carry a review date where the content is time-sensitive. If you find an error, tell us at research@aluminiumrecycling.org. Substantiated corrections are published and credited, and are not made silently — the process is set out in our Editorial Standards. That process is our commitment on accuracy; we do not additionally warrant that the site is error-free.

8. External links and third-party resources

This site links extensively to patent registries, standards bodies, statistical agencies, company reports and conference literature, because verifiability requires pointing at the source. We are not responsible for the content, availability or practices of external sites, and a link is not an endorsement of that site or its operator.

External sites are governed by their own terms. Patent registries in particular impose their own conditions on the use of retrieved documents; check those before redistributing patent text you obtained through them.

9. No user submissions or comments

The site does not accept comments and has no user accounts, so we do not receive user-generated content through it. Technical corrections, literature additions and data challenges are handled by email to the research board, under the published process in our Editorial Standards — which gives a correction a traceable record and, where warranted, public credit.

Correspondence you send us is handled as described in our Privacy Policy. Sending us material does not transfer any right in it beyond what is needed to assess and, if appropriate, publish the correction with credit.

10. Availability

We aim to keep the site available but do not warrant uninterrupted access. Pages may be moved, revised or withdrawn as content is developed; URLs are kept stable where possible, and where a page is retired we provide a redirect or a note rather than leaving a dead link.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude liability for any loss arising from use of, or reliance on, this site — including indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, business interruption, and loss arising from any decision taken on the basis of material published here.

We do not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. We would rather state the limit plainly than overreach: this clause limits liability for information we published; it is not an attempt to disown responsibility for how we published it.

You are responsible for your own evaluation, your own compliance position, and your own operational safety.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have non-exclusive jurisdiction. We choose this because the site publishes in English under a .org domain with a substantial European readership, and because a neutral, widely recognised forum is appropriate for an institute that serves an international technical audience.

This does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer or data protection rules in your own country, and it does not affect your rights under the GDPR or equivalent regimes, which we honour regardless of this clause.

13. Changes to these terms

Substantive changes are recorded below with their date and, where the change affects reuse rights, announced on the site. Wording corrections are made without a note. Reuse rights already granted under a stated licence are not withdrawn retroactively for material published under it.

若发现错误,请致信 research@aluminiumrecycling.org。
