Privacy Policy |

Version 1.0 · Last updated: 2026-10-30 · Applies to aluminiumrecycling.org

This policy explains what personal data this website collects, why, how long it is kept, and what rights you have. It is written to match how the site actually operates. Where a practice described here depends on a setting we have not enabled, that is stated rather than assumed.

1. Who we are

AluminiumRecycling is an independent technical research institute for aluminium recycling technology. The website address is: https://aluminiumrecycling.org.

For the purposes of the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the operator of this site is the data controller for the personal data described below. Data protection enquiries and rights requests: privacy@aluminiumrecycling.org (or the research board at research@aluminiumrecycling.org).

2. The short version

We collectWe do not collect
Server log entries (IP address, timestamp, requested page, browser user agent) generated automatically when you load a pageNames, postal addresses or phone numbers, unless you send them to us
The content of emails you send us, and your address, if you contact usPayment or financial data — we sell nothing and take no payments
Login cookies, for site editors and administrators onlyAdvertising or cross-site tracking identifiers
Nothing elseData purchased from brokers, or enrichment from third parties

We do not run advertising, we do not sell or rent personal data, and we do not operate a user registration system. Membership registration is disabled, so visitors cannot create accounts.

3. Data collected automatically

Like virtually every website, our hosting provider records a log entry each time a page is requested. A log entry typically contains your IP address, the date and time of the request, the URL requested, the referring page, the HTTP status code, and your browser user agent string.

We use these logs for one purpose: keeping the site available and secure — identifying and blocking abusive traffic, diagnosing errors, and understanding in aggregate which pages are requested. We do not use log data to build profiles of individual visitors, and we do not combine it with any other data source.

Retention. Log files are held by our hosting provider under its own retention schedule. Requests to search or delete log entries relating to you can be made using the contact address below.

4. Data you give us

If you email us — for example to submit a technical correction, a literature addition or a data challenge under our Editorial Standards — we hold your message, your email address and any identifying information you choose to include.

We use it to reply and, where a correction is substantiated, to credit you on the relevant page unless you ask otherwise. Correction correspondence is retained for as long as needed to assess and record the correction; where a correction note is published, it forms part of the page’s revision history and is retained with it.

5. Cookies

A cookie is a small file stored by your browser. This site sets cookies only in the following circumstances:

  • Login and administration. If you visit the login page, a temporary cookie is set to check whether your browser accepts cookies; it contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser. When an editor or administrator logs in, cookies are set to preserve the session and screen preferences. Login cookies last two days, or two weeks if “Remember Me” is selected; screen options cookies last one year. Logging out removes them.
  • Editing. When an editor saves a page, a cookie records the ID of the article just edited. It contains no personal data and expires after one day.

Visitors who do not log in are not served cookies by this site. We do not set analytics, advertising, profiling or cross-site tracking cookies.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Because the site sets no cookies for ordinary visitors, blocking them will not affect your ability to read anything here.

6. Comments

Comments are closed. This site does not accept or display visitor comments, and we therefore do not collect the name, email address, website URL, IP address or user agent string that WordPress would otherwise record with a comment.

Technical corrections, literature additions and data challenges are handled through the research board by email, under the process set out in our Editorial Standards. This gives a correction a traceable record and published credit, which an unmoderated comment thread cannot.

7. Embedded content and external links

Pages on this site link to external resources — patent registries, standards bodies, statistical agencies and conference literature. Following a link is no different from visiting that site directly: the operator of that site then collects data under its own policy, over which we have no control.

Where a page embeds third-party content, that content behaves as if you had visited the originating site, which may collect data about you, set cookies and monitor your interaction with it. We avoid embeds where a plain link will serve, and no page currently requires one in order to be read.

8. Analytics

As at the date of this policy, this site runs no analytics or audience-measurement tooling. We can therefore state that we do not collect behavioural or usage analytics about visitors.

If audience measurement is introduced later, this page will be updated before it goes live, and consent will be obtained where the law requires it — which, for visitors in the European Economic Area and the UK, it does.

9. Who we share data with

We do not sell, rent or trade personal data, and we do not disclose it for advertising or marketing purposes. We share it only with:

  • Our hosting provider, which operates the server the site runs on and generates the log entries described in section 3. It acts as a data processor on our behalf.
  • Our email provider, for correspondence sent to or from the institute.
  • Authorities, where we are legally obliged to disclose.

No advertising network, data broker, analytics vendor or social platform receives personal data from this site. This is a deliberate consequence of how the site is funded and governed, described in our About page.

10. Legal bases for processing (GDPR)

  • Legitimate interests — maintaining server logs for security, availability and abuse prevention; responding to correspondence addressed to us.
  • Consent — for any optional cookie that is not strictly necessary. Because none are currently set for visitors, no consent banner is required at present.
  • Legal obligation — retention or disclosure required by law.

Where a basis is legitimate interest, we have assessed that the processing is limited to what is necessary and does not override your rights. You may object to it using the contact address below.

11. Where your data is processed

The site is hosted on infrastructure operated by our hosting provider. Server locations depend on the hosting plan and region selected.

Because our subject matter — including EU carbon border regulation — is read substantially in Europe, we recognise that GDPR applies to visitors in the EEA and the UK, and we handle requests under it regardless of where the server is located.

12. How long we keep data

  • Server logs — per our hosting provider’s retention schedule (see section 3).
  • Correspondence — retained while needed to handle your enquiry or assess a correction, and thereafter as part of the page’s published revision history where a correction note is published.
  • Login cookies — as set out in section 5.

We do not retain personal data on the assumption that it may be useful later.

13. Your rights

If you are in the EEA, the UK, or a jurisdiction with equivalent rights, you may request:

  • Access — a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification — correction of inaccurate data.
  • Erasure — deletion, subject to data we are required to keep for administrative, legal or security purposes.
  • Restriction and objection — including objection to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Portability — where processing is based on consent or contract and carried out automatically.

To exercise any of these, write to privacy@aluminiumrecycling.org. We will need enough information to identify the data in question — for log data, this means the approximate time and IP address used. We respond within one month. You also have the right to complain to your national supervisory authority.

One honest limitation: where the only data we hold is a server log entry, we may be unable to identify you within it without the details above, and we will not guess.

14. Security

The site is served over HTTPS. Administrative access is restricted to named accounts, and we keep WordPress core, themes and plugins updated. No online service can be guaranteed secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect data against unauthorised access, alteration or loss.

15. Children

This site is a technical reference resource intended for engineers, researchers and industry professionals. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

16. Changes to this policy

Substantive changes are recorded below with their date, consistent with the correction principle in our Editorial Standards: changes are not made silently. Editorial corrections to wording are made without a note.

数据保护咨询与权利请求:privacy@aluminiumrecycling.org(或研究委员会 research@aluminiumrecycling.org)。

5. Cookie。

请致信 privacy@aluminiumrecycling.org。

数据保护与权利请求:privacy@aluminiumrecycling.org;技术更正与编辑事务:research@aluminiumrecycling.org;机构信息:关于我们 · 学术与文献引用标准。
